brewery: VAPOUR QUANTITY MEASUREMENT

Volume measurement of vapour
with deltaflow

Accurately measuring the volume of vapour
is a challenging task, but can be easily solved
using the deltaflow dynamic pressure probe..

Below you will find a typical application example for vapour quantity measurement.
Of course, deltaflow is suitable for many other applications and media (gases, vapours, liquids).

measuring steam in brewery

Brewery steam measurement - practical example

In the wort kettle of a brewery, mashed barley and wheat malt are boiled with hops and evaporated to produce wort. To heat the wort kettles, saturated steam is generated in two boilers fired by oil, natural gas and biogas at a nominal pressure of approximately 8 bar. The boilers can be operated separately or together as required.

Steam production is energy intensive and therefore expensive, so the amount of steam must be accurately measured and controlled to save costs.

systec Controls' solution: deltaflow dynamic pressure sensor

The deltaflow back pressure sensor does both:

It records both the amount of steam produced and the weekend shutdown.

Because deltaflow detects changes in steam volume much faster than the parallel pressure monitoring system, boilers can be switched on or off as required.

The result: potential energy savings of several thousand euros

Due to the low pressure loss of the deltaflow, a significant energy saving potential can be realised compared to other dynamic pressure probes and measuring systems such as orifices/venturis. For example, compared to the orifice plate in this 20 tonne per hour steam system, approximately €6000 per year is saved. In addition, there are significantly lower installation and maintenance costs.
